Bridgeport Speedway News

Bridgeport, NJ - After competing in last year's 1/4 Mile Nationals in October, it was clear that the Slingshot drivers wanted to know if they would be returning to the South Jersey complex in 2014. Bridgeport Speedway, along with Speedway Entertainment (Tobias Slingshots) has come up with a three-race schedule for the upcoming racing season. On Friday May 9, Friday July 25, & Saturday October 18, the popular Slingshots will hit the racy Bridgeport inner-oval.

Last year the Slingshots ran an 'exhibition' race (winner John Bockhorn) in August resulting in their return for the 1/4 Mile Nationals. The exciting 25-lap event was captured by Pennsylvania's Cody Kline followed by Carl Bittenbender, and Donny Hockman. The two Bridgeport events in 2013 paid a full-standard Slingshot touring purse to all competitors. The three race dates in 2014, although not tour races, will still pay a full touring purse for the entire field. The 1/4 Mile Nationals drew an overwhelming 100 cars last year with the Slingshots represented by 18 teams.

NJ state law requires drivers to be 16 or older. However, if applied for, a rule modification most likely will be granted to those drivers that apply for it within the time frame required. NJ state police will allow 14 and 15 year olds to run a slingshot at Bridgeport provided that the driver has adequate racing experience, all the proper paper work filled out and files the request in timely manner (60-90 days before the event). Please forward all questions regarding Racetrack Regulations to: Det. II Matt Kowalski #6735 LPP6735@GW.NJSP.ORG or contact Danny Serrano at 609-433-4487.

Bridgeport Speedway provides a safe and secure family atmosphere, free parking, giveaways and fan participation games. Billed ‘The Fastest Dirt Track in the East’, Bridgeport Speedway is a banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt 1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey -- just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.
