LAUBACH LANDS IN BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY’S VICTORY LANE FOR THE SIXTH TIME THIS SEASONSwedesboro, NJ (August 5, 2012) – On Short Track SuperNational Qualifier Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Rick Laubach landed in victory lane after taking the Big Block Modified feature. Tommy Beamer took top honors in the Crate Sportsmen class with Terry Griffin winning the Outlaw Stock Car race.
After the original start of the 30-lap Big Block Modified feature was scrubbed by a yellow flag, Ron Roberts grabbed the lead over Mike Franz, Steve Durand, and Bob Sarkisian. Following a caution period on lap 1, Durand swept by Roberts and Franz to gain the top spot. Just as action was heating up in the middle of the pack, a flat on the ride of Dave Adams caused the yellow lights to illuminate with three circuits completed. When the green flag waved again, Durand held onto the lead with Roberts, Sarkisian and seventeenth place starting Rick Laubach in tow. By lap 6, Laubach moved into second with Durand having established a comfortable edge over the field. The yellow flag reappeared on the seventh tour as Danny Hieber made contact with the outside wall in turn four. On the restart, Laubach outgunned Durand to take over the lead. After gaining the top spot, Laubach began to pedal away from the field. On lap 15, Laubach’s full straightaway margin was eliminated as the final caution period of the event took place for a stopped Sean Gunther. When racing resumed, Laubach remained in control with Sarkisian slipping by Durand for second place. Laubach continued to set a fast pace as he had built up a full straightaway advantage with only five circuits to go. In the final laps, Laubach successfully knifed through heavy lap traffic to secure his sixth win of the year. Sarkisian’s strong run resulted in a second place finish. Durand came home in third place. Richie Pratt, Jr. completed the event in fourth. After an opening lap flat tire, Jimmy Horton worked his way back to the front to finish in fifth. The Big Block Modified heats went to Rick Laubach, Eric Kormann, and Jimmy Horton.
In the 20-lap Crate Sportsmen feature, Tommy Beamer claimed his second checkered flag of the season.
At the start of the non-stop event, Travis Hill took the lead with Brett Kressley and Beamer in the chase. Beamer sped by Kressley on the sixth revolution of the contest and began to track down Hill. In lap traffic with five circuits remaining, Beamer slipped by Hill and he continued to set the pace in the final laps for the victory. With Hill finishing in the runner-up spot, third place was taken by Matt Budd. Kressley, and Ryan Anderson completed the top five. Travis Hill won the Crate Sportsmen qualifying event.
After finishing first in the heat race, Terry Griffin held off Jeremy Doerr in the final laps to best the field in the 15-lap Outlaw Stock Car feature. This was the seventh win of the year for Griffin. Jeff Dirkes, Joe Meron, and Tom Boehlert rounded out the top five.
