HORTON WHEELS BACK INTO BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY’S VICTORY LANEBridgeport, NJ (June 23, 2013) – On Bike Bonanza Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Jimmy Horton wheeled back into victory lane after winning the Big Block Modified feature. Matt Budd claimed the checkered flag in the main event for the Crate/Sportsman. The D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie race went to Jesse Bonaduce. Jimmy Avery won the Outlaw Stock Car feature.
At the start of the 30-lap Big Block Modified feature, Jack Swain grabbed the lead with Sean Gunther and Mike Barone in pursuit. With five tours in the books, Swain had a half-straightaway advantage with Gunther, Barone and Mike Iles in close formation and battling for positions. By lap 12, Swain’s edge increased to a full straightaway with Barone taking over the runner-up spot from Gunther. On the next circuit, Iles sent Gunther back another position as he advanced into third. Mike Franz slowed on the backstretch on the fourteenth revolution bringing out the first caution flag of the contest. On the double file restart, Swain chose the outside lane and maintained his lead after a side-by-side tussle with Barone for an entire lap. With Iles still in third, Jimmy Horton, the sixteenth place starter, was continuing to slice his way to the front as he motored into fourth on lap 16. Two circuits later, Horton had just gained third place from Iles when the second yellow flag of the race appeared for a slowing Bucky Kell. As action got back underway, Swain kept his lead and was followed by Iles, Horton, and Barone. With ten circuits remaining, Iles and Horton were in a heated door-to-door battle for second with Horton coming out on top and setting his eyes on Swain for the lead. After tracking down the leader, Horton won the side-by-side race with Swain to gain the top spot with seven circuits to go. By lap 25, Horton had quickly opened up a half-straightaway advantage over Swain, Iles, and Barone. On the next tour, the last caution period of the event occurred as the second place running Swain began to slow down on the track. On the single file restart, Horton repelled the challenge from Iles with Barone in third. In the final laps, Horton began to pull away and he went on to record his second feature win of the year. With Iles finishing in the runner-up spot, Barone crossed the finish line in third. Richie Pratt, Jr., who started the race in eighteenth, came home in fourth. Fifth place was taken by the fifteenth place starting Ryan Watt. The Big Block Modified heat races were won by Sam Martz, Jack Swain, and David Hunt. The consolation event went to Richie Pratt, Jr.
After taking the lead from Kyle Hieber on the seventh circuit of the 20-lap Crate/Sportsman main event, Matt Budd held off a late charge from Brad Roberts to win his third feature of the season. With Roberts finishing in second, Bob Lilick wound up in third. Hieber and Mike Cogdill rounded out the top five. Matt Budd, Brett Ballard, and Billy Briggs were the victors in the qualifying events for the Crate/Sportsman.
Jesse Bonaduce dominated the 8-lap D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie Series feature to collect his second consecutive victory. Kris Lilick and Ian Humphreys followed Bonaduce across the finish line in order.
In the very entertaining 15-lap Outlaw Stock Car feature, Jimmy Avery nipped Brian Ludwig as the checkered flag waved to win his first ever race at Bridgeport Speedway. Ludwig, who had taken the lead from Tom Wills, Sr. on lap three, finished in second. Wills, Sr., Jimmy Hughes and TJ Henry completed the top five. The winners in the Outlaw Stock Car heat races were Tom Boehlert and Brian Ludwig.
