WATT REGISTERS HIS THIRD BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY VICTORY OF THE YEAR
Bridgeport, NJ (June 30, 2013) – On Diploma Night presented by Active Environmental, Ryan Watt registered his third Big Block Modified victory of the year at Bridgeport Speedway. Mike Cogdill took the checkered flag in the Crate/Sportsman race. Ian Humphreys claimed the D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie Series championship with a win in the final event. The TSRS Sprint Car main event was won by Jamie Kostic.

As the 30-lap Big Block Modified feature got underway, Ron Roberts grabbed the lead and was quickly followed by Sean Gunther. Gunther began to close in on the early pacesetter and slipped beneath Roberts on lap 3 to take over the top spot. Bob Sarkisian motored into the runner-up position with four circuits completed and he was pressing for the lead when the first caution came out on the fifth revolution for Tom Maccherone. On the restart, Mike Barone blasted from third to the front of the pack with Gunther in second and Sarksiain in third. The red flag came out on lap 6 as multi-car accident occurred in the first turn. When action resumed, Barone fought back the challenge from Gunther to remain on top. On lap 8, Gunther dropped out of the race with a mechanical issue and Ryan Watt assumed the runner-up spot. With a third of the contest completed, Barone had nearly a half-straightaway lead over Watt, Sam Martz, and sixteenth place starting Jimmy Horton. Richie Pratt, Jr. who started the contest in twelfth, was continuing his climb toward the front as he passed Horton for fourth place on the eleventh tour of the outer oval. The final caution flag of the race appeared on lap 12 as Mike Iles stopped near the pit entrance in the second corner. When the green flag waved, Watt powered by Barone to gain the lead with Pratt, Jr. and Horton behind the top two. As Watt was beginning to stretch out his lead on lap 16, Barone and Pratt, Jr. were in a duel for the runner-up spot. With twelve laps remaining, Watt had a half-straightaway lead over Barone. By lap 22, Barone had begun to chip away at Watt’s advantage with Pratt, Jr. still chasing the top two. With five to go, Pratt, Jr. began to reel in Barone for second. As the two laps remaining signal was given, Watt, Barone, and Pratt, Jr. began to encounter some slower running cars and the top three cars came closer together. On the final circuit in the midst of heavier lap traffic, Watt crossed the finish line by one and a half car lengths over Barone with Pratt, Jr. finishing third. Horton came home in fourth. Iles motored his way back from the rear of the field to finish in fifth. The Big Block Modified heat races were won by Travis Hill, Bob Sarkisian, and Mike Iles. The consolation event was captured by Wade Hendrickson.

After taking the lead on the seventh circuit from Gary Hieber, Jr., Mike Cogdill led the balance of the 20-lap Crate/Sportsman feature to grab his first checkered flag of the season and fourth in his career. Marc Herman completed the race in second. Bob Lilick, Brad Roberts, and Kyle Hieber completed the top five. Marc Herman and Dave Damiano were the victors in the qualifying events for the Crate/Sportsman.

Ian Humphreys clinched the D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie Series championship by slipping past Kris Lilick on the last circuit of the 10-lap finale for his sixth win of the year. Behind the top two of Humphreys and Lilick, Jesse Bonaduce, Pete Lucchesi, and Matthew Peck crossed the finish line in order.

Jamie Kostic led from start to finish as he won the 20-lap feature event for the TSRS Sprint Cars. Kostic started on the pole and fought off an early race challenge from Steve Patterson to gain the victory. With Patterson finishing second, Rick Stief came home in third. Kyle Reinhardt and Dave Brown rounded out the top five. The winners in the TSRS Sprint Car heat races were Bob DeVault and Jamie Kostic.

On Wednesday July 3, the Tom Hager Memorial, a 43-lap Big Block Modified Poker Series event, and a fireworks display highlight a special three-division card.
