Bridgeport, NJ (August 30, 2013) - At Bridgeport Speedway’s Friends of Mike Race, Jimmy Blewett picked up $7500 for his winning efforts in the Big Block Modified Poker Series contest. Jordan Watson collected the victory in the Crate/Sportsman Poker Series event.

As the 51-lap feature for the Big Block Modifieds got underway, Lou Cicconi grabbed the lead with Jimmy Blewett, Mike Iles, Duane Howard and Jack Swain in pursuit. The first yellow flag of the race appeared upon the completion of the opening circuit for Wade Hendrickson. On the ensuing restart, Blewett took the top running spot away from Cicconi. By the fifth tour, Blewett’s advantage was a full straightaway with Cicconi, Iles, Billy Pauch, and Howard completing the top five. Blewett’s large lead evaporated on the same circuit due to a caution period for Dom Buffalino. As action got back underway, Blewett was in first with Pauch taking over second and Cicconi dropping back to third. The top three remained in order until Jimmy Horton stopped in the second corner on lap 9. Blewett fought off Pauch to keep his lead as racing resumed with Iles zipping into third place. With fifteen revolutions completed, Blewett had a slight edge over Pauch. Two tours later, Pauch drove to the inside of Blewett in the first and second turns but Blewett maintained his lead. On laps 19 and 20, Pauch repeated the exact same challenges but was denied each time. While the top two were dicing it out for the lead, Iles began to close in on the top two. Flames coming out of Jimmy Horton’s ride caused the yellow lights to illuminate on lap 21. As green flag racing resumed, it was Blewett still on top with Pauch and Iles next in line. During lap 25, Blewett warded off another attempt by Pauch for the lead. On the next circuit, Eric Kormann’s car stopped in the second corner and the yellow lights illuminated the 5/8th mile dirt oval. When green flag racing conditions returned, Blewett held on to the lead with Pauch in the runner-up spot and Sammy Piazza climbing past Iles for third. Bob Sarkisian’s flat tire caused the action to slow down on lap 33. When the action roared back up to speed, first place was held by Blewett as Pauch was in second and Howard took over third. In this stretch of green flag racing, Blewett was able to open up a quarter of a straightaway lead over Pauch by lap 38. Two tours later, Pauch was inching closer to Blewett. By lap 47, Pauch made another effort for the lead as the final caution of the contest came out for Sam Martz who lost a wheel on the backstretch. Blewett held off Pauch on the last restart and led the balance of the race to secure his first career win at Bridgeport Speedway. With Pauch taking second, Howard came home in third. Piazza’s strong run resulted in a fourth place finish. Fifth was taken by Ryan Watt. The victors of the Big Block Modified heat races were Lou Cicconi, Duane Howard, and Jeff Heotzler. The Rogie Rumble for the heat race winners was captured by Cicconi. Bob Sarkisian won the consolation race.

In the 25-lap Crate/Sportsman feature, Jordan Watson took home the top prize following a competitive mid-race battle with Mike Lyons. Lyons set the pace for the opening five tours before Watson gained control. Following a restart on lap 9, Watson and Lyons raced hard and clean for the next two circuits with Watson being scored the leader for both tours. Watson continued to set the pace for the remaining laps to score his second checkered flag of the season. A late charge by Steve Davis gave him a second place finish. With Lyons completing the race in third, Brett Ballard was fourth and Rich Rutski claimed fifth. The Crate/Sportsman qualifying events were taken by Bob Lilick, Marc Herman, and Ricky DiEva. Brad Roberts was the victor in the consolation event.
