SARKISIAN TAKES BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE AS WATT CLAIMS CHAMPIONSHIP AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAYBridgeport, NJ (September 29, 2013) – On Championship Night at Bridgeport Speedway presented by Eastern AutoParts Warehouse, Bob Sarkisian won his first Big Block Modified feature event since 2010 as Ryan Watt and his Roberts Racing team earned their first ever Big Block Modified championship. Rookie Jesse Bonaduce won his first career Crate/Sportsman main event as Mike Cogdill picked up his first track title. In the Outlaw Stock Car division, it was all Ron Frees as Frees came away with his tenth win of the season and his first championship.
In the Big Block Modified feature, Bob Sarkisian led every one of the thirty laps to gain the third win of his career at Bridgeport Speedway. Sarkisian used the outside groove to power around two-time winner Dave Hunt in turns three and four to take the lead. Frequent caution flags early in the race kept the competition close as Dave Witte chased Sarkisian for more than twenty laps. Richie Pratt Jr. was still outside of the top five at the race's half way mark but Pratt went to the upper lanes of the dirt oval to work his way to the front. Pratt was up to third with ten laps to go. The second generation driver took over second from Witte on lap 22 but Witte battled back for several laps before Pratt was cleared for second. Sarkisian had pulled away from the field but Mike Franz drew a caution on lap 28 that set up a single file restart. Sarkisian was up to the challenge as he drove away from Pratt for the win. Wade Hendrickson made some late race moves to finish a strong third as Mike Iles ran fourth. Ryan Watt’s fifth place run gave him the 2013 track championship. The Big Block Modified qualifying events were taken by Jack Swain, Duane Howard, and Eric Kormann.
In the 20-lap Crate/Sportsman race, Jesse Bonaduce took the lead from Jesse Dill on lap five and led the balance of the race to collect the win. Kris Lilick finished in the runner-up spot. Travis Hill got by Mike Cogdill in the late going to finish in third. Cogdill's fourth place run allowed him to claim the division title. Kyle Hieber finished fifth, just one spot ahead of his brother Gary. Marc Herman, Joe Dill, and Ryan Wozunk won the heat races in the Crate/Sportsman division. The consolation event was taken by Tom Miller.
In the 15-lap feature for the Outlaw Stock Cars, Ron Frees took the lead from Brian Ludwig with just three circuits remaining as he racked up his tenth win of the season along with the championship. Several late race incidents jostled the final running order that saw Rick Broschard cap off a strong run in second. Tom Wills, Sr. finished third with Carl Thomas, the car owner for Frees, completing the race in fourth. John Parker rounded out the top five. The Outlaw Stock Car heat race victors were Brian Ludwig and Tom Wills, Sr.
On Saturday, October 5, the High Stakes at the Port event takes place on Bridgeport Speedway’s 5/8th mile. 56-laps of Big Block Modified feature racing will highlight the card. The fourth hand of the Big Block Modified Poker Series will award the winner of the 35-lap main event with $3000. In addition, the remaining twenty-one circuits from the May 11 Big Block Modified feature will be completed. The Crate/Sportsman racers are set to partake in the fourth hand of their Poker Series with $750 going to the victor of the 20-lap main event. The third round of the Outlaw Stock Car Shootout Series sponsored by Black Flagged Racing will see the full-fendered cars do battle in a 20-lap affair with the top finisher rewarded with $600. A demolition derby will complete the action. Competitors can begin to enter the pits at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand ticket office opening at 5:00 p.m. Action on the outer oval starts at 6:30 p.m. Adult (16 and older) admission will be $20 with students (10-15) being admitted for $10.
