Who Will Be This Year’s 2014 Bridgeport Speedway Rookie Champion? Rookies Face Off Saturday For The Title!

Bridgeport, NJ - Whether you’re attending Saturday’s races at Bridgeport Speedway for the mighty 467 cubic-inch Spirit Dodge Big Blocks, the high-flying Hillborn Fuel Injection TSRS 305 Sprint cars, or the always popular 811 Dig Safely Crate/Sportsman, there just might be one other division that will have everyone talking before the night’s over….the 2014 Bridgeport Rookie Series.

With 12 rookies earning points thus far this year in the D.A.’s Auto Body Rookie Series, it will all come down to this coming Saturday’s double point 12-lap feature. Currently, six drivers are mathematically eligible to take home Saturday’s championship ,in what has been a tremendous rookie field in 2014.

At 6:45 p.m. the entire D.A.’s Auto Body Rookie Class will take center stage as they will be lined up on the front stretch with their cars for rookie graduation. All rookies in attendance will be introduced to the fans as they receive their framed diplomas and then take part in a group photograph before their final race begins.

Flemington, NJ’s Steve Desmylek comes into Saturday’s program holding a slim point lead over Rich Deck Jr of Gibbstown, NJ. Desmylek, a two-time Rookie winner sits two points in front Deck Jr., who is also a two-time Rookie winner. Basically, whoever finishes ahead of the other will place in front of the other in the final point tabulations.

But by no means, is this a two-man race for a shot at the title! Mike Liccardi, who owns a Rookie feature win this season, sits third in the point standings and is only 10 points out of first place. Sitting fourth in points is two-time Rookie winner Matthew Peck. Peck started strong wining the first two Rookie races and is looking to finish the 2014 campaign the way he started it.

David Crossman is in search of his first win of the season, while trailing the high man in points by only 14 markers. Jeff Sargent needs a lot of help to come home the 2014 champion, but it is still possible for the already one-time Rookie winner.

Looking to conclude this year’s rookie series with a bang are Blaike Bracelin, Matt Davis, Justin Lilick, and Andrew Exter. Matt Stern and Bryan Olsen have unfortunately been only able to race once this season, rounding out the dozen competitors.

Not only will the champion have bragging rights the rest of the season, they will have earned $500 for their winning efforts courtesy of series sponsor D.A.’s Auto Body & Repair located in Feasterville, PA. Second man in the point standings will receive $300, while the third place finisher will take home $200. All monies, trophies, plaques, and awards will be presented at this year’s championship banquet on December 6 in Bridgeport, NJ.

This Saturday is ‘Little League/Scout Night’ at Bridgeport Speedway. All Little Leaguers and Cub/Boy/Girl Scouts in UNIFORM will be admitted FREE to the races. The pit gates swing open at 4:30 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at 5:30 p.m this Saturday on ‘Joy Auto Parts Night’. Hot laps get cranked up at 6:15 p.m. and racing starts at 7:00 p.m. Adult (16 and older) admission for the season point opener will be $20 with students (10-15) being admitted for $10. Kids 9 and under are free.
