JAMES WINS FEATURE AS HENDRICKSON COLLECTS MODIFIED CHAMPIONSHIP AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (September 19, 2009) - On Hall of Fame Night at
Bridgeport Speedway, Chad James won the Big Block Modified feature.
After completing the feature event with a third place finish, Wade
Hendrickson clinched his second career Big Block Modified Championship
at Bridgeport Speedway. Jack Swain was the victor in the 358 Sportsman
race with Bob Burgess taking the checkered flag in the GM Sportsman
event. The Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stocks feature was captured by Nick
Gargiulo.

After the original start was scrubbed due to a spin in turn one by
Matt Harrell, Scott Irwin took the lead to begin the double point
30-lap Big Block Modified contest with Mike Franz, Ryan Watt and Mike
Barone in tow. The red lights were shone on lap 2 after a multi-car
mishap found Jimmy Chester flipping in turn two. When green flag
racing resumed, Watt swept by Franz for second place with Chad James
jumping up to third. Flagger Ken Golden waved the yellow flag on lap 4
when Mike Iles rolled to a stop on the frontstretch. On the ensuing
restart, Watt took over the top spot and James moved into second
place. Wade Hendrickson entered the picture by getting into the third
spot on lap 6. Just as the leader Watt was entering lap traffic on lap
10, the caution lights lit up the speedway for Bobby Firth's slowing
ride. When action got back underway, Watt and James battled for the
lead for the next three circuits until James ascended to the top spot
on lap 13. Once in front, James began pull away from the field and
began to lap his competitors on lap 16. In the final ten laps of the
extra distance race, James survived two final restarts and charged to
the finish line nearly six seconds ahead of Watt for his sixth win of
the year. Hendrickson came home in third place. The veteran Irwin had
a stout run to finish in fourth. After his early race spin, Harrell
drove through the field to wind up in fifth. By virtue of his third
place finish, Hendrickson claimed the 2009 point championship for the
Big Block Modifieds. Harrell, Chic Cossaboone, and Watt each won a Big
Block Modified heat race.

In the 20-lap affair for the 358 Sportsman, Jack Swain grabbed the
lead from Jack Hartnett on the sixth tour on the big 5/8th mile dirt
oval to win his third feature of 2009. Swain, starting from the eighth
position, survived lapped traffic in the final five laps of the event
to post a five second win over Jarrad Miller. Sean Gunther, Travis
Hill and Ron Roberts completed the top five. The 358 Sportsman
qualifying events were won by Hartnett, Miller and John Cavallaro.

Bob Burgess regained the lead on lap 10 and won his fourth GM
Sportsman race of the season. Burgess seized the lead from rookie
Billy Martino on lap 5. Following a restart on lap 8, Michael Cogdill
swept by Burgess for the top spot. Two laps later, Cogdill developed a
flat and Burgess became the leader for the remaining laps to win the
15-lap main. Neal Williams and Eric Kormann put on a terrific battle
for second place in the final laps with Williams getting the nod. With
Kormann in third, rookies Martino and Bob Bracall rounded out the top
five. Burgess and Kormann were the victors in the GM Sportsman heat
races.

In the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock feature, Nick Gargiulo led all
fifteen laps to win his first race ever at Bridgeport. Gargiulo
survived a late race challenge from teammate Pat Conaway on his way to
victory lane. Brian Ludwig nudged by Conaway on the final lap to gain
second place. Conaway was third followed by Jeremy Doerr and Doug
DeBray.

On Saturday, September 26th, the BPG Racing/Hooters Restaurant
Tri-Track Big Block Modified Challenge Series returns with a big
30-lap feature. Also, track champions will be crowned in double point
events for the 358 Sportsman, GM Sportsman and Proformance Cuts Outlaw
Stocks. Lucky contestants in the Ugly Sweater contest will win prizes
courtesy of the speedway. Qualifying gets underway at 7:00 PM on
Saturday with grandstand gates opening at 5:00 PM.
