Monday May 17, 2010 JAMES WINS A THRILLER AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY BRIDGEPORT, NJ (May 16, 2010) - On Miss Bridgeport Night, Chad James was the victor in the Big Block Modified feature. Chuck Hopkins took home the checkered flag in the Crate Modified race. In the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock feature, Pat Conaway was the winner. Matt Budd won the Rookie race.
Coming from the second starting spot, Bob Sarkisian grabbed the early lead in the 25-lap Big Block Modified feature with Chad James quickly taking second. Driving up from his seventh place start, Jimmy Chester moved into third on lap 5. Just as the top two of Sarkisian and James began to distance themselves from the pack, the first caution flag of the event waved for a slowing Ron Roberts. After two failed restarts, James used the outside lane to take the lead with Chester taking second and Ryan Watt climbing into fourth. Mike Franz’s ride came to a stop on the eighth tour of event. When action got back underway, James maintained his advantage with Watt taking the runner-up spot. Wade Hendrickson was launching a bid for the top and reached third on lap 9. One lap later, Hendrickson’s night came to end as he stopped on the backstretch. On the restart, Watt took the lead from James and appeared to be heading back to victory lane for the second week in a row. As the laps clicked off, James slowly reeled in Watt and eventually regained the lead on lap 16. Undaunted by losing command of the race, Watt stayed close to James. Further back, Matt Harrell, who had gone pitside on lap 6, entered the picture by storming into fourth place on lap 19. One tour later, the yellow lights radiated the track for Dave Howard. James held off Watt when the green flag waved as Harrell motored up to third. The final caution of the event occurred on lap 22 as Watt developed a flat tire. With Harrell now in second, James fended him off on the restart. On the final lap, Harrell closed in on James and got underneath him on the final turn. After some contact, James kept a firm handle on his car and won his tenth career Big Block Modified feature by a single car length over Harrell. Richie Pratt, Jr. finished third with Chic Cossaboone taking fourth. Fifth place was grabbed by Jimmy Chester. Pratt, Jr., Brian Kressley, and Sarkisian each won a heat race.
In the 20-lap Crate Modified event, Chuck Hopkins out gunned Gino Postorivo on a lap 8 restart and went on to score his eighth career win. Hopkins started the feature in the seventh position. Sean Gunther was second and Travis Hill took home a third place finish. Dan Cogdill and Larry Lippincott completed the top five finishers. Crate Modified qualifying races were won by Postorivo and Brett Kressley.
Pat Conaway is perfect this year in the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock class as he captured his third win of the year. Conaway passed early leader Jeremy Doerr on lap 4 and led the remaining laps for the victory. Doerr finished in second and Dean Woolford claimed third place. Jeff Dirkes and Ken Watson rounded out the top five.
For the second week in a row, Matt Budd led every lap to win the Rookie race over Jeff Duprez and Frank Raio. Budd has won three features in the Rookie class this season.
