Monday May 31, 2010 SARKISIAN AND HENDRICKSON TAKE BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURES AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (May 30, 2010) - On Armed Forces/Veterans Night, Bob Sarkisian and Wade Hendrickson were the victors in the 20-lap Big Block Modified features. The Crate Modified event was won by Travis Hill. Pat Conaway claimed the checkered flag in the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock race.
In the first 20-lap Big Block Modified feature, Tommy Scheetz, Jr. took the early lead with Jesse Hill and Brett Ballard in pursuit. A flat on Butch Tittle’s car stopped the racing on lap 1. On the restart, Scheetz, Jr. maintained the lead but Bob Sarkisian motored into second place on lap 3 with Ryan Watt taking third on the next tour. As Sarkisian was moving in on the leader, the yellow lights illuminated for Jack Hartnett. After a couple of failed restarts on lap 6, racing was resumed for only one circuit before another caution period occurred due to a multi-car tangle involving Jimmy Chester, Brett Ballard and Bud Schweibinz. When the green flag waved to restart the action, a ferocious three wide battle for the lead occurred between Scheetz, Jr., Sarkisian and Watt. The red flag appeared on lap 8 as a flare up occurred on the ride of Jason Rivers. As the racing got back underway, Sarkisian claimed the lead with Wade Hendrickson getting second place. As the laps clicked off, Hendrickson began to narrow the gap. On lap 12, Chad James began to slow in turn two and the caution flag was displayed. On the single file restart, Sarkisian held off Hendrickson and pulled away to a slight advantage. By lap 17, Sarkisian’s edge was only one car length as Hendrickson was trying to use the low groove to gain the lead. The final caution of the event transpired on lap 19 due to a slowing Brett Ballard. On the final resumption of racing, Sarkisian had great start but Hendrickson closed in on him in the final turn. At the finish line, Sarkisian nipped Hendrickson by only a half-car length. Watt finished in third with Brian Kressley taking fourth place. Jesse Hill wound up in fifth place.
With the top six finishers in the first feature inverted for the start of the second 20-lap Big Block Modified feature, Chic Cossaboone took advantage of his front row starting position and zipped out to the lead. Brett Ballard brought out the first caution of the event on the first lap. With Cossaboone still on top of the pack following the restart, Wade Hendrickson grabbed second place. The yellow lights flickered again as Bryant Brown began to slow on the dirt oval on lap 3. When the green lights illuminated, Cossabooone held off Hendrickson’s strong challenge for the lead. Hendrickson remained close to Cossaboone and began to make a serious bid for the lead when a spin by Ballard caused another display of the yellow flag on lap 9. On the ensuing restart, Hendrickson powered by Cossaboone for the lead and Ryan Watt moved into contention by driving up to third. With Hendrickson stretching out his lead, the last caution of the event occurred on lap 15 for Jimmy Wyers. When the final green flag waved, Hendrickson held off the challenge and led the remaining laps for his fourth win of the season. Watt picked up one spot in the final laps to finish in second place. Third place was snared by Brian Kressley with Cossaboone claiming fourth place. Richie Pratt, Jr. finished in fifth place. Mike Franz, Tommy Scheetz, Jr. and Chic Cossaboone won the Big Block Modified heat races. The consolation race was won by Butch Tittle.
In the caution free 20-lap Crate Modified feature, Travis Hill visited victory lane for the third time in 2010. Hill, who started the race in fifth, took the lead from Eric Kormann on lap 7. Neal Williams wound up in second place with Chuck Hopkins claiming third place. Dan Cogdill and Frank Dorry, Jr. filled out the top five. Dorry, Jr. and Dan Cogdill were the winners in the Crate Modified qualifying events.
Pat Conaway led every lap to win the 15-lap Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock race. For Conaway, it was his fourth victory of the year. Second place was snared by Jeremy Doerr. Terry Griffith, Rick Broschard and Russell Wurst completed the top five finishers.
