HOWARD, LAUBACH AND LYONS WIN WINGATE MEMORIAL CLASSIC FEATURES AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 24, 2010)- At the Wingate Memorial Classic at
Bridgeport Speedway, Duane Howard won the Frank Franz Memorial feature
while Rick Laubach was the victor in the Bill Chester Memorial
feature. The 358 Sportsman event went to Mike Lyons.

In the Frank Franz Memorial feature for the Tri-Track Big Block
Modifieds, Tommy Scheetz, Jr. took the opening lead with eighth place
starting Duane Howard quickly blasting into second place by lap 2. The
first caution of the event occurred with two circuits completed as
Chic Cossaboone slowed down due to a flat tire. When action got back
underway, Howard used the outside lane to power past Scheetz, Jr. to
become the new man on top. As the laps clicked off in the first half
of the event, Howard began to stretch out his lead and Rick Laubach
moved into contention by driving up through the field to reach second
on the seventh tour. On lap 10, the caution lights came on for a spin
by Neal Williams in the fourth corner of the speedway. After a failed
restart due to a mid pack incident involving several cars, Howard
chose the outside lane to keep his edge over Laubach, Wade Hendrickson
and Jimmy Horton. Again, Howard was distancing himself from his foes
until the yellow flag was shown for Tommy Scheetz, Jr. on lap 14.
Using the inside lane, Howard kept the lead as green flag racing only
lasted two laps as a flat tire slowed Scheetz’s efforts. On the last
resumption of action, Howard maintained his lead and grabbed his
thirty-sixth checkered flag at Bridgeport Speedway. Laubach outlasted
Hendrickson to finish second. Craig Von Dohren roared back from a
mid-race tangle to finish in fourth and Horton held on to take fifth.

With the top ten finishers in the first feature inverted for the Bill
Chester Memorial, Mike Iles, the 2008 Big Block Modified champion at
Bridgeport, scooted to the front with Ron Roberts and Jimmy Chester in
the chase. With two restarts in each of the first two laps, Iles
retained his advantage over his rivals. Behind him, Duane Howard began
his assault and became the runner-up on lap 9. Behind the top two,
Craig Von Dohren and Rick Laubach were charging towards the front.
Just as Howard was about to make a serious challenge for the lead, a
slowing Ryan Watt caused the illumination of the caution lights on lap
12. Iles chose the outside lane on the restart but Howard used a
strong inside run to gain the lead with Laubach taking third from Von
Dohren. The final caution of the race happened when the second place
running Iles spun on lap 15. When the green flag waved again, Laubach
used the outside lane to launch himself past Howard for the lead.
Laubach led the remainder of the race to garner his twenty-fourth
career win at Bridgeport Speedway. Howard ended up in second and Von
Dohren completed the race in third. Teammates Richie Pratt, Jr. and
Brett Ballard finished in fourth and fifth place respectively. Rob
Nixon, Ryan Watt and Mike Iles each won a Big Block Modified
qualifying race.

Mike Lyons led from green to checkered to claim the 20-lap 358
Sportsman race. Lyons, who started in second place, fought off a
strong early challenge from Rocco Infante to snare his second career
win at Bridgeport Speedway. Infante held on for second place as his
car had overheating issues in the second half of the contest. Larry
Lippincott wound up in third with Randy Yaple grabbing fourth and Mike
Mammana claiming fifth. The 358 Sportsman heat race winners were Lyons
and Yaple.
