BALLARD GAINS CRATE MODIFIED WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (August 1, 2010) - Brett Ballard, a Big Block Modified
Rookie in 2010, returned to the Crate Modified class and captured the
20-lap feature. In the Tri-State RaceSaver Sprint event, John Wyers
was the victor. Jeremy Doerr took the checkered flag in the
Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car contest. In the final Rookie race,
Matt Budd was the winner as he clinched the 2010 Rookie championship.
Kelly Putz snared the victory in the Crate Late Model race.

The original start of the Crate Modified feature was marred by a
multi-car tangle that unfortunately eliminated invader Justin
Griffith. When action did get underway, Brandon Perdue outgunned Brett
Ballard to take the lead with Tom Miller, Eric Kormann and Neal
Williams in pursuit. On lap 3, Ballard hopped out in front of Perdue
to become the new man on top. Miller steered up to the runner-up spot
one tour later. Behind the top two, Kormann, Perdue, Williams and
Chuck Hopkins became engaged in a multi-lap fierce battle for third
place. By the halfway point, Ballard had increased his lead to a
half-straightaway lead over Miller. On lap 12, Hopkins had gained
third place and Ballard’s comfortable lead was eliminated as the top
two began to enter lap traffic. Also on lap 12, Keith Earhart spun in
turn three just in front of the leaders and the caution flag appeared.
On the single file restart, Ballard kept his lead over Miller and
Hopkins. Hopkins motored into second on lap 15 and set his eyes on
Ballard. With two laps to go, Hopkins was within striking distance of
Ballard for the lead. On the final lap, Ballard held off the charge by
Hopkins on the outside to gain the victory by a narrow margin. Miller
finished in third place with fourth going to Williams and Larry
Lippincott grabbing fifth. Matt Budd, Kormann and Williams were the
victors in the Crate Modified qualifying races. Budd was the Ciconte’s
Pizza Driver of the Night.

In the Tri-State RaceSaver(TSRS) Sprint Car main, John Wyers came from
his tenth starting spot to gain his second checkered flag of the year.
At the start of the race, Jeff Geiges became the frontrunner and by
lap 13 had a full straightaway lead when the red lights were
illuminated as Jeff Fifthian flipped in turn three. In third place on
the restart, Wyers continued to use the high groove and gained second
from Bruce Kindberg on lap 15. Two circuits later, Wyers passed Geiges
for the lead and drove to his seventh career victory at Bridgeport
Speedway. Geiges held on for second place with Kindberg taking third.
The top five was filled out by Stef Palmai and Mike McManus. The TSRS
Sprint Car heats were won by Chuck Palmucci and Mark Sasso.

In the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car event, Jeremy Doerr scored
his second win of the year in the non-stop 20-lap race. Rick Broschard
led the opening four circuits before Doerr climbed to the lead.
Broschard finished second with Pat Conaway taking third. Nick Gargiulo
wound up in fourth place and Dean Woolford came home in fifth.

Kelly Putz led from start to finish to score the win in the Crate Late
Model race. Following Putz across the finish line was Tony Giglio, Joe
Dill and Steve Davis.

In the final Rookie contest of the year, Matt Budd won his ninth race
of the year over Jeff Duprez, Troy Burger and Keith Earhart. Budd
earned the 2010 Bridgeport Speedway Rookie Championship by winning all
but one of the ten races in the division.
