Sunday August 15, 2010 COSSABOONE COLLECTS $2600 CHECK AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY BRIDGEPORT, NJ (August 15, 2010) - On Pie Your Favorite Night at
Bridgeport Speedway, Chic Cossaboone collected the Big Block Modified
feature win. In the Crate Modified event, Neal Williams scored the
victory. Dean Schaeffer took the checkered flag in the Tri-State
RaceSaver Sprint main while Rick Broschard was the victor in the
Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car race.
The original start of the 25-lap Big Block Modified feature was
disrupted by a multi-car accident involving eight of the twenty five
starters. When action did get underway, Butch Tittle scampered out to
the early lead with Bob Sarkisian, Mike Franz and Chic Cossaboone in
the hunt. Cossaboone moved up to third on the second circuit.
Sarkisian was pressing for the lead when Jason Duppel stopped on the
track on lap 4. On the restart, Sarkisian outgunned Tittle to become
the new leader. On lap 6, Tittle began to slide back as Cossaboone
moved into second and Ryan Watt wheeled his way to third. Tour by
tour, Cossaboone began to slice into Sarkisians lead. On lap 12,
Sarkisian and Cossaboone raced side by side for an entire circuit
until Cossaboone edged his way to the top one lap later. As Cossaboone
began to distance himself from the field, Sarkisian and Watt took up a
battle for second and Watt gained the runner-up position on lap 15.
Wade Hendrickson pushed Sarkisian back to fourth one lap later. With
five laps remaining, Watt had significantly cut into Cossaboones lead
and was within striking distance when the caution flag waved for
Sarkisian on lap 23. On the single file restart, Cossaboone maintained
his edge and crossed the finish line ahead of the pack using the high
groove. Cossaboones third career win in the Big Block Modified ranks
was worth $2600 and he became the tenth different winner in the class
this season. Watt took home a second place finish with Hendrickson
grabbing third. Fourth place went to Jimmy Chester and Richie Pratt,
Jr. finished in fifth. Ron Roberts, Hendrickson and Pratt, Jr. each
won a Big Block Modified heat race. Hendrickson was the Cicontes
Pizza Driver of the night.
In the 20-lap Crate Modified contest, Neal Williams used a late race
charge to score his third triumph of the season. Brett Kressley was in
control of the race until a lap 15 caution period allowed the field to
pull behind him. Coming from fourth place on the restart, Williams
passed three cars in three laps to gain the lead on lap 18 as he drove
his way into victory lane. Kressley held on for second place while
Larry Lippincott finished in third place. Frank Dorry, Jr. and Ron
Roberts completed the top five. Kressley and Lippincott were the
victors in the Crate Modified qualifying races.
Mike McManuss late race motor failure allowed Dean Schaeffer to
regain the lead and win his first 20-lap Tri-State RaceSaver (TSRS)
Sprint Car main. After taking the lead from Schaeffer on lap 8,
McManus had a full straightaway lead with less than five laps
remaining. On lap 17, McMannuss ride began to billow smoke and he
pulled off the track one circuit later. John Wyers closed with a
furious rush in the final two laps and finished second by less than a
car length. Bill Course, Jeff Geiges and Bill Case, Jr. filled out the
top five. The TSRS Sprint Car qualifying events were won by Stef
Palmai and Wyers.
Rick Broschard led from start to finish as he captured his second
15-lap Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock feature of the year. Pat Conaway
started in twelfth place and came home in second. Jeremy Doerr, Jeff
Dirkes and Bob Hopely rounded out the top five.
