Monday August 23, 2010 FAILED POST RACE INSPECTION BY PAUCH SR. LANDS LAUBACH A WIN AT
BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY BRIDGEPORT, NJ (August 22, 2010) - On Dietz & Watsons Dollar Dog
Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Rick Laubach was declared the winner of
the Tri-Track Big Block Modified feature after the car of Billy Pauch,
Sr. failed a post race technical inspection. In the Crate Modified
contest, Eric Kormann was the victor. Rick Broschard took the
checkered flag in the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car feature.
In the 30-lap Tri-Track Big Block Modified feature, polesitter Rick
Laubach out gassed Billy Pauch, Sr. to gain the lead with Mike Iles,
Brian Kressley and Ryan Watt in tow. Just after the first lap of
racing was completed, Iles was sent spinning in turn two and this
resulted in Kressley being sent to the rear of the field. When action
got back underway, the top two runners remained intact with Bob
Sarkisian advancing to third place, Watt taking over fourth and Wade
Hendrickson progressing into fifth. On lap 10, Laubachs half
straightaway lead over Pauch Sr. was eliminated as Watt slowed down on
the track with a right rear flat. When the green flag waved again,
Laubach kept his lead over Pauch, Sr. but Hendrickson charged up to
third place as Jimmy Chester took over fourth and Richie Pratt, Jr.
blasted into fifth. As Laubach was recreating his comfortable margin,
Pauch, Sr. and Hendrickson were in a tight battle for second. Iles,
who was working his way back to the front, re-entered the top five on
lap 16. The caution lights came on again on lap 17 as Brett Ballard
stopped in turn four. Action resumed for only one more lap as Eric
Kormann began to slow down on the backstretch. Under this caution
period, Jimmy Chesters night ended as he retired to the pits with a
mechanical issue. On the restart, Pauch Sr. was able to rocket past
Laubach to take over the lead with Hendrickson riding into third and
Jimmy Horton grabbing fourth. The yellow lights illuminated the track
on lap 20 for Butch Tittle. Using the outside pole, Pauch maintained
his edge over Laubach on the restart with Horton climbing up into
third. On lap 21, the caution flag was displayed once more as Pratt,
Jr. stopped on the track near the pit entrance. Once again, Pauch held
off Laubach to keep his lead and Hendrickson regained third place from
Horton. Laubach was within striking distance of Pauch when a spin by
John Scarpati, Jr on lap 26 caused another yellow flag to be shown.
Action got back underway for only one more lap as Hendricksons ride
began to crawl on the track. On the final restart, Pauch outdragged
Laubach and fought an ill handling racecar in the final three circuits
to cross the finish line ahead of Laubach when the checkered flag was
shown. A post race technical inspection revealed an infraction that
resulted in the disqualification of Pauch, Sr.s racecar. Thus,
Laubach was declared the winner of the event, which was the 900th Big
Block Modified feature held at Bridgeport Speedway. Horton finished in
second place. Watt, Iles and Kressley did an excellent job in getting
back to the front as they wound up in third, fourth and fifth
respectively. Watt and Iles received bonus money for being the first
two Bridgeport Speedway regulars across the finish line. Pratt, Jr.,
Hendrickson and Laubach each picked up a win in the Big Block Modified
heats. Laubach was the Cicontes Pizza Driver of the Night.
Eric Kormann led the entire distance to capture the 20-lap Crate
Modified race. Kormann started on the pole and had his sizeable lead
wiped out due to a caution flag on lap 16. Kormann held off Dan
Cogdill on the ensuing restart as he gained his second win of the
year. Dan Cogdill finished second with Chuck Hopkins earning a third
place finish. The top five was completed by John Cavallaro and Mike
Cogdill. Kormann and Hopkins were victorious in the Crate Modified
qualifying races.
For the second week in a row, the 20-lap Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock
Car feature was won by Rick Broschard. Broschard took over the lead
from Jeff Dirkes on lap 4 and maneuvered through heavy lap traffic in
the final laps to gain his third win of 2010. Second place went to Pat
Conaway. Jeff Dirkes nipped Nick Gargiulo to take third place. With
Gargiulo taking fourth, fifth place went to Bob Hopely.
