Wednesday September 08, 2010 HARTNETT GETS FIRST CAREER BIG BLOCK MODIFIED WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY HARTNETT GETS FIRST CAREER BIG BLOCK MODIFIED WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (September 5, 2010) - On Back to School Night at
Bridgeport Speedway, Jack Hartnett won his first Big Block Modified
feature in his career. The Crate Modified main event was captured by
Tom Miller. Jeremy Doerr was the victor in the Proformance Cuts Outlaw
Stock Car race.
At the drop of the green flag in the 25-lap Big Block Modified
feature, Bob Sarkisian motored to the front with Jack Hartnett, Jimmy
Chester and Mike Iles in the hunt. After a back and forth tussle for
the lead, Hartnett became the new man on the point on lap 3. Once on
top, Hartnett was using the middle groove of the raceway to extend his
advantage. On lap 7, with Hartnett having a near half-straightaway
lead over Sarkisian, Ryan Watt migrated up to third place with Chester
in fourth. One lap later, Wade Hendrickson entered the top five just
as Sarkisian and Watt began a multi-lap battle for second. Watt took
over second on lap 10 and began to close in on Hartnett. By lap 16,
Watt was on Hartnetts bumper when the first caution flag of the event
appeared for Stan Frankenfield, Jr. After four failed attempts at a
clean restart, Hartnett kept his edge over Watt, Chester and
Hendrickson when action finally got underway. On lap 18, the yellow
lights illuminated again as Richie Pratt, Jr. stopped on the track. On
the ensuing resumption of racing, Hendrickson charged by Watt and
Chester to gain second place. On lap 19, Bob Sarkisians car came to
rest on the inside of the frontstretch and the caution flag was shown
to the competitors. Also on lap 19, Hendrickson was sent to the rear
of the field after twice failing to adhere to the restart rules. When
action did get back underway, Hartnett outgunned his rivals and
Chester overtook Watt for second place. Unchallenged in the final
laps, Hartnett charged to his first career Big Block Modified feature
checkered flag. Second place went to Chester with Watt finishing
third. Brian Kressley wound up in fourth and Pratt, Jr. came back to
finish fifth. The winners of the Big Block Modified heat races were
Watt, Hendrickson and Brett Ballard. Rusty Smith won the consolation
event.
In the non-stop Crate Modified feature, Tom Miller led all twenty laps
to notch his second win of the year. Miller bested fellow front row
starter Matt Budd at the start and did not face a serious test for the
lead during the event. Frank Dorry, Jr. inched out Larry Lippincott
for second place. With Lippincott in third, Neal Williams finished in
fourth and Travis Hill completed the event in fifth. Lippincott and
Williams each won a Crate Modified qualifying race.
Jeremy Doerr took his third Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car
checkered flag of the year. Nick Gargiulo led the opening four
circuits of the 20-lap race before Pat Conaway grabbed the lead. Rick
Broschard moved into second on lap 8. While under caution on lap 11,
the top two of Conaway and Broschard entered the pits and Gargiulo
regained the top spot with Doerr in second. On lap 13, Doerr
catapulted himself past Gargiulo and led the remainder of the race to
gain the victory, Gargiulo, Ken Watson, Jr., Bob Hopely and Russell
Wurst followed Doerr across the finish line.
