Monday September 20, 2010 PRATT PEDALS TO A WIN AS HENDRICKSON SECURES ANOTHER BIG BLOCK
MODIFIED TITLE AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY BRIDGEPORT, NJ (September 19, 2010) - On Logan Township Night
presented by RMP Powertrain Solutions, Richie Pratt, Jr. won the Big
Block Modified feature and Wade Hendrickson claimed his second
consecutive Big Block Modified Championship. In the Crate Modified
event, Eric Kormann took the checkered flag. Chuck Palmucci captured
the Tri-State RaceSaver feature with Nick Gargiulo scoring the victory
in the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car contest.
In the 30-lap double point Big Block Modified feature, Chad James
rocketed to the front with Butch Tittle and Ryan Watt in the chase.
After a couple of early caution periods in the opening laps, James
remained on top with Watt gaining second and Richie Pratt, Jr. taking
up third place. James was opening some daylight from the pack when the
yellow lights clicked on for Bobby Firth on lap 7. On the ensuing
resumption of racing, James held on to the lead as Pratt, Jr. worked
his way around Watt to gain second. The top three remained that way
until Wade Hendrickson passed Watt on lap 10 following a restart. With
James still the best, Butch Tittles flat on lap 12 brought the final
caution flag of the event. When the green flag waved, James held off
Pratt, Jr. with Watt returning to third place. With James running the
middle to high groove, Pratt, Jr. was using the low side to track down
the leader. By lap 16, the top two began a duel for the top spot. On
lap 19 in lap traffic, Pratt, Jr. emerged with the lead and began to
pull away from James. Watt overtook James for second on lap 22 as the
top three were about to hit heavier traffic on the track. In the midst
of slower cars, James was able to reclaim the runner-up spot from Watt
on lap 25. Two circuits later, James was quickly closing on Pratt, Jr.
when his momentum was curtailed after scrapping against the
backstretch retaining wall. When the checkered flag waved, Pratt, Jr.
crossed the finish line three cars lengths ahead of James for his
third win of the year. Watt wound up in third place with Hendrickson
finishing fourth and Jimmy Chester completing the race in fifth. For
the second year in a row and the third time in his career, Hendrickson
was crowned the Big Block Modified champion for the season at
Bridgeport Speedway. Hendrickson, Watt and James each won a Big Block
Modified heat race. The consolation race was won by Bob Sarkisian.
Eric Kormann racked up his third win of the year in the 20-lap Crate
Modified race. Kormann started in the front row and led from green to
checkered in the non-stop contest. Second place went to Mike Cogdill.
Travis Hill drove up from his tenth place start to take third. Neal
Williams and Ron Roberts rounded out the top five finishers. John
Cavallaro and Larry Lippincott were the victors in the Crate Modified
qualifying races.
In the 20-lap Tri-State RaceSaver (TSRS) Sprint Car main, Chuck
Palmucci powered his way to a win. Starting from the pole, Palmucci
scurried to the front at the start of the race and was not seriously
challenged except for a restart on lap 3. Jeff Geiges and Jeff Mueller
waged a terrific battle for second during the second half of the race
with Geiges taking the position and Mueller grabbing third.
Completing the top five finishers were Joey Allen and Mark Sasso. The
TSRS Sprint Car qualifying events were won by Ryan Smith and Stef
Palmai.
Nick Gargiulo tallied his first victory of the year by taking the
15-lap Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car race. Gargiulo inherited the
lead on lap 10 after teammate Pat Conaway dropped out of the affair.
Herman Solderich finished a career best second with Jeff Dirkes
winding up in third. Bob Dooley was fourth and Ron Dirkes took fifth.
