Thursday November 25, 2010 PRATT WINS BRAY MEMORIAL TRI-TRACK BIG BLOCK MODIFIED RACE AT
BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY BRIDGEPORT, NJ (November 22, 2010) - After winning the season finale
at Georgetown Speedway one week ago in thrilling fashion, Richie
Pratt, Jr. used a last lap pass during the second annual Charlie Bray
Memorial event to win the Tri-Track Big Block Modified race at
Bridgeport Speedway. Ryan Anderson won the Charlie Bray Memorial Crate
Modified race while Matt Budd took home the checkered flag in the
makeup feature from July 20. The Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car
race was taken by Nick Gargiulo. Jeff Geiges was the victor in
Tri-State RaceSaver Series Sprint Car contest.
In the 30-lap Tri-Track Big Block Modified feature, Wade Hendrickson,
the 2010 track champion at Bridgeport, took early command of the race
with Ron Roberts, Don Norris and Duane Howard in the hunt. Howard had
migrated up to third while Danny Johnson gained fourth and Rick
Laubach motored into fifth place by the time the first caution flag
came out on lap 4 for Rob Nixon. Shortly after the race resumed, the
yellow lights illuminated the track again when Howard spun in turn
four in front of Laubach. This ended Laubach’s night as he damaged his
car in the incident. When action got back underway, Johnson scurried
past Hendrickson and Roberts to take the lead. As Johnson was taking
the lead on lap 5, Roberts hit the turn three wall viciously and the
yellow flag appeared again. When the green flag waved again, Johnson
won a full lap side by side battle to with Hendrickson to maintain his
edge as Richie Pratt, Jr. scooted into third. Jimmy Horton was
continuing his march forward as he took over fourth place from Chic
Cossaboone on lap 8. By lap 10, Johnson had built up a two-second lead
over Hendrickson. Four circuits later, the top contenders began to
enter lap traffic. On lap 15, Pratt, Jr. had pulled up to
Hendrickson’s bumper in a race for the runner-up spot. The final
caution period of the contest occurred on lap 17 when Mike Franz began
to slow on the backstretch. On the single file restart, the top four
remained in order. Ryan Watt, who was involved in an earlier incident,
continued to fight his way back to the front as he entered the top
five on lap 19. By lap 23, Johnson seemed to be running away from the
pack with a comfortable margin over his rivals. With the leaders
entering lap traffic with five tours remaining, Johnson’s lead began
to diminish and Pratt, Jr. was closing ground on the second place
running Hendrickson. Pratt, Jr. took over second place as the white
flag appeared. Johnson, who was glued to the inside groove, was
hampered by lap traffic as Pratt, Jr. continued his assault on the
outside. As the top two exited turn two on the last lap, Pratt, Jr.
escaped with the lead and roared to the finish line for his fourth win
of the year at Bridgeport Speedway. Johnson held on for second place
with Hendrickson finishing in third place. Fourth position was claimed
by Horton and fifth went to Watt. The heat winners were Johnson, Watt
and Howard. Jimmy Chester won the consolation race. For the third
consecutive year, Rick Laubach won the Tri-Track Big Block Modified
Series Championship.
In the Charlie Bray Memorial Crate Modified feature, Ryan Anderson won
his first race ever at Bridgeport Speedway. Neal Williams set the tone
for the opening six circuits of the 20-lap race until Larry Lippincott
took over following a restart. Anderson, who began the race in fifth
position, advanced to second on lap 9. Following a resumption of
action, Anderson took over the lead on lap 15 and pulled away in the
remaining laps to secure the victory. Lippincott finished in the
runner-up spot with Williams winding up in third. Ron Roberts and
Travis Hill rounded out the top five finishers. Hill, Williams and
Sean Gunther were winners in the qualifying races in the Crate
Modified class.
In the held over Crate Modified race from July 20, rookie Matt Budd
led all twenty laps to secure his first feature win. Budd started on
the pole and survived two second half race restarts to collect the
win. Larry Lippincott finished in second place with a strong rush in
the final laps. Third was taken by Brett Ballard followed by Neal
Williams and Travis Hill.
After getting passed by PJ Oliver in turn two on the last lap, Nick
Gargiulo returned the favor on the final turn as he was the victor in
the 20-lap Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car race. Gargiulo had
initially gained the lead after his teammate Pat Conaway dropped out
of the race with a mechanical issue on lap 14. Oliver, who was sent to
the rear of the field for causing an accident on lap 14, roared back
through the field to finish in second place. Bob Hopely, Tim Walker
and Steve Schemelia completed the top five.
Jeff Geiges capped off his championship year by winning the 15-lap
Tri-State RaceSaver Series Sprint Car race. Geiges passed Mike McManus
on lap 5 as he cruised to a win over Scott Flammer. With McManus
finishing in third, Dan Massey wound up in fourth and Mike Piersig
grabbed fifth.
