GODOWN GRABS 358 SMALL BLOCK MODIFIED WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
Swedesboro, NJ (November 10, 2012) – On day one of Wild Card Weekend at Bridgeport Speedway, Ryan Godown grabbed the checkered flag in the 358 Small Block Modified feature. Ryan Anderson was the victor in the 30-lap Crate Sportsmen Poker Series finale. Rich Reider won the postponed Outlaw Stock Car feature from September 22 while Jeff Dirkes topped the field in the Fallen Friends 20 for the Outlaw Stock Cars.

At the start of the 30-lap 358 Small Block Modified feature, Ryan Godown jumped out to the front with Meme DeSantis and Duane Howard in pursuit. Howard motored into the runner-up position on the second circuit. By lap 6, the top two of Godown and Howard were setting a torrid pace with Kevin Hirthler riding in third. One tour later, Godown began to encounter some slower running competitors. With a long stretch of green flag racing, Godown and Howard were in the midst of more lap traffic with Howard inching closer to the leader. At the halfway mark, Godown and Howard were side-by-side as Hirthler was nearing the top two. By lap 17, the top three of Godown, Howard and Hirthler were in tight quarters. With ten tours to go in the contest, Godown developed some breathing room as he was approaching another pocket of lap traffic. On lap 22, Godown’s lead had diminished again while he was racing through another group of slower running cars. With five to go and clear of traffic, Godown began to pull away from Howard and Hirthler. On lap 27, Dave Witte’s ride stopped near the fourth turn wall and the only caution flag of the race appeared. Following the double file restart, Godown continued to set the pace as Howard and Hirthler tussled for the runner-up spot. Godown maintained his lead for the remaining distance to grab the victory. Hirthler finished in second with Ryan Watt’s late race charge earning him a third place finish. Howard slipped back in the final laps to finish in fourth while DeSantis came home in fifth. Rick Laubach, Ryan Watt, Ron Roberts, and Duane Howard each won a Small Block Modified heat race. Steve Young and Kyle Merkel were victors in the consolation races.

Ryan Anderson benefitted from a mechanical failure on Travis Hill’s ride to win the 30-lap Crate Sportsmen Poker Series finale. Hill grabbed the lead at the start of the event with Anderson running in second place. On lap 15, Hill’s car stopped near the pit entrance and Anderson inherited the lead. Once on top, Anderson controlled the race for the last half of the event to capture his fourth win of the year. Frank Dorry, Jr. finished in second with Mike Cogdill taking third. Matt Budd and Ricky DiEva completed the top five. The Crate Sportsmen qualifying events were taken by CJ Jones, Frank Dorry, Jr. and Mike Cogdill. Kyle Bostic won the consolation contest.

In the postponed Outlaw Stock Car feature, Rich Reider made his return visit to Bridgeport worthwhile by winning the 15-lap race. Jeff Dirkes took the lead at the start of the event. Reider, who took over second place on the eleventh circuit, passed Dirkes for the top spot with one tour remaining. Dirkes earned the 2012 Outlaw Stock Car championship with his second place finish. Brian Ludwig, Bill Liedtka, and Gary Klimeczak filled out the top five.

Dirkes came back in the Fallen Friends 20 for the Outlaw Stock Cars and nosed out Reider for the victory. Tom Priciotta’s strong run earned him a third place finish. Tom Wills, Sr. wound up in fourth with fifth taken by Spider Ensinger, Jr. Tom Wills, Sr., and Jeff Dirkes won the heat races.
