Friday January 25, 2013 SPORTSMAN CARS WILL BE ALLOWED TO RACE WITH CRATE POWERED CARS IN 2013 AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY Bridgeport, NJ (January 25, 2013) - After discussion with plenty of drivers, Bridgeport Speedway will allow open Sportsman cars to compete with Crate Sportsman cars throughout the entire 2013 season. “I have received many inquiries from Sportsman competitors about running weekly at Bridgeport Speedway this year and we feel this will help our car count and help grow the division,” remarked track operator Keith Hoffman.
Sportsman cars competing in the newly combined Crate/Sportsman class will need to weigh 2450 pounds and can only use steel wheels. Competitors using crate powered cars can weigh 2350 pounds with aluminum wheels and must adhere to Bridgeport Speedway Crate Sportsman rules including the use of a 6200 rev limiting chip. An experiment of combining the open Sportsmen and Crate Sportsmen powered cars occurred during Wild Card Weekend in November 2012. “Doug tried this concept at the last show of 2012. It seemed to work very well. I am going to monitor the racing. If I see any unfair advantage, I will adjust the rules to keep a very level playing field ,” stated Hoffman. A new set of rules for this new division is being finalized and will be posted at www.bpspeedway.com. A rookie series for the Crate/Sportsman division is being added as well. All parties interested in the rookie series should contact Danny Serrano at [email protected].
The Crate/Sportsman racers will debut on Saturday, March 30 with the first race of their Poker Series. “The 60 Over Special” Race of Champions Big Block Modified race in honor of Doug Hoffman will highlight the three-division season opener. This 60-lap contest will serve as the initial hand of the Big Block Modified Poker Series for 2013. In addition, the first of five races of the new Shootout Series for the Outlaw Stock Cars starts on this day.
Bridgeport Speedway provides a safe and secure family atmosphere, free parking, giveaways, and fan participation games.
