Tuesday March 26, 2013 MORE ENTRANTS FOR BRIDGEPORT’S 60 OVER SPECIAL AND ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR OUTLAW STOCK CAR SHOOT OUT SERIES Bridgeport, NJ (March 26, 2013) – With Bridgeport Speedway’s “60 Over Special” just a few days away, more Big Block Modified drivers have enrolled in the “60 Over Challenge.” Mike Barone, Jimmy Blewett, Rick Laubach, Ron Roberts, Craig Von Dohren, and Ryan Watt are the latest entrants to join Jimmy Horton and Neal Williams as early enrollees. With the $60 gambler’s fee, these drivers are now eligible for the first place prize of $6,060.60 instead of the posted $4,000 victor’s share.
The “60 Over Special”, featuring a 60-lap Race of Champions race for the Big Block Modifieds , takes place at Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday, March 30. This special event honors Doug Hoffman, the late promoter of the track. In addition, this race will serve as the first hand of Bridgeport Speedway’s Poker Series for the Big Block Modifieds. A star-studded field is expected to include Brett Hearn, Bobby Varin, Billy Decker, JR Heffner, Pat Ward, Larry Wight, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Pauch, Duane Howard, and Ryan Godown.
The Outlaw Stock Car Shoot-Out Series sponsored by Black Flagged Racing gets underway with the 20-lap Bill Reynolds Memorial Race. This initial contest will honor the late Bridgeport Speedway novelty stand owner. Recently, several new bonuses have been added. Lee Hansen of First Class Painting in Williamstown, NJ has added $200 to the winner’s share and the top place finisher in each of the 20-lap Outlaw Stock Car Shoot-Out races will go home with $500. For the opening race of this new series, Carl Thomas Racing is adding a $50 bonus to each heat race winner. With the extra cash, the victors of the Outlaw Stock Car qualifying events on March 30 will receive $100. In addition, Carl Thomas Racing is sponsoring lap 11 for $50 and the first alternate for the feature race will take home $50. The new Crate/Sportsman division will round out the card with a 30-lap Poker Series contest.
For this special opening day event, several additional activities are scheduled to take place. Katie Todorow, Miss Motorsports 2013, will be on hand. An Easter Egg Hunt will occur in the quarter mile pit area near the main grandstand entrance. A balloon launch is slated to be held before the first qualifying race takes place. Introduced last season and very popular with fans, the Big Block Modifieds will be staged on the midway behind the spectator stands. After being on display throughout the day, a restored “60 Over” 1986 Olsen Modified formerly driven by Doug Hoffman will pace the feature line-up. Just before the 60-lap race begins, the missing man formation will take shape on the 5/8th mile. Joette Hoffman, Doug’s daughter, will wave the green flag to get the contest underway. All fans and crew members are encouraged to stand on the opening circuit and final tour of the race. Numerous new novelty items will be on sale during the day including a Doug Hoffman photo collage and memorial sticker. 2013 Poker Series shirts and hoodies can be purchased as well.
On Saturday, March 30, the pit gates swing open at 11:00 a.m. with the grandstand turnstiles opening at 1:00 p.m. Hot laps get cranked up at 3:00 p.m. and racing starts at 4:00 p.m. Adult (16 and older) admission for the opener will be $25 with students (10-15) being admitted for $12. Kids 9 and under are free. Admittance to the pits is $35.
