Thursday May 02, 2013 BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY’ S BIG BLOCK MODIFIED POKER SERIES IS SET TO RESUME WITH THE WINGATE CLASSIC Bridgeport, NJ (May 2, 2013) – On the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, Bridgeport Speedway’s Big Block Modified Poker Series is set to resume. On Sunday, May 26, the Wingate Classic, a 40-lap Big Block Modified race in honor of George Wingate, will pay the winner $4000 with $300 available to competitors upon taking the green. Wingate was a special person in the history of Bridgeport Speedway. Starting in 1978, Wingate began his first of three stints as Bridgeport Speedway promoter. In total, Wingate, who lost a battle with cancer in May 2003, held the promotional reins for nearly eleven years.
The Wingate Classic will be the second hand of the five race Poker Series. At each Poker Series race, the victor receives an Ace (A), second a King (K), third a Queen (Q) and so on down to the 13th-place finisher receiving a Deuce (2).
In addition, the Crate/Sportsman and Outlaw Stock Cars will have special events on May 26. The second hand of the Crate/Sportsman Poker Series is set to occur with $1000 going to the winner and $100 minimum going to the starters of the 30-lap feature. The second round of Black Flagged Racing’s Outlaw Stock Car Shoot Out Series takes place with plenty of extra incentives including lap money and a gambler’s bonus. All three divisions will have qualifying races and consolation events before their main events.
On Sunday May 26, the pit gates unlock at 4:00 p.m. and fans can begin to enter the grandstands at 5:00 p.m. Racing is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. Adult (16 and older) admission for the opener will be $25 with students (10-15) being admitted for $12. Kids 9 and under are free. Admittance to the pits is $35.
Bridgeport Speedway provides a safe and secure family atmosphere, free parking, giveaways, and fan participation games. As a premier racing complex, Bridgeport Speedway is a banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt 1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey -- just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.
