JAMES SPRINGS TO HIS THIRD CAREER MODIFIED WIN AT BRIDGEPORT
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (May 10, 2009) - On Mother’s Day night sponsored by
Mr. Green Jeans Farm Market and Nursery, Chad James won the Big Block
Modified feature. In the 358 Sportsman main event, Randy Yaple was
victorious. Neal Williams captured the GM Sportsman contest with Pat
Conaway besting the field in the Outlaw Stock race. The Rookie GM
Sportsman feature was won by Tyler DeVault.

Polesitter Chad James took the lead at the start of the 25-Lap Big
Block Modified feature and was chased early on by Jimmy Chester,
Richie Pratt Jr., Mike Iles and Ryan Watt. As the battle heated up for
first place, Chester drove underneath James on lap 7 in turn two but
James came out with lead. Also on lap 7, Bill Klingmeyer’s flat drew
the first caution of the race. On the restart, James maintained his
lead while a good battle took place for third place between Pratt Jr.
and Iles. The yellow flag was displayed on lap 13 when the second
place running Chester developed a flat left rear tire. When action
resumed, Watt and Wade Hendrickson scooted by Pratt Jr. to take over
second and third place respectively. A brake failure caused Jimmy
Horton’s car to stop in turn two on lap 14 for the event’s third
caution. Racing continued for three more circuits until the caution
lights illuminated for Rick Wegner. When the green flag waved again,
James fought back the challenge of Watt and Hendrickson to keep his
lead. Running near the top ten for much of the evening, Stan
Frankenfield’s ride came to a near stop on the backstretch on lap 24
and created a one lap shootout. With a single file restart, James
fought back Watt’s challenge and charged home to collect his third
career Big Block Modified win at Bridgeport Speedway. Watt finished in
second with Hendrickson taking third place. Chester fought back from
his flat tire and wound up in fourth place. Fifth place went to Pratt
Jr. Hendrickson, James, and Watt each won a Big Block Modified heat
race.

In the 358 Sportsman event, polesitter Jarrad Miller outgunned fellow
front row starter Randy Yaple to lead the opening lap. On the next
circuit, Yaple took the top spot away from Miller. The yellow flag
flew on lap 3 when John Kelly spun into the infield near turn two.
Yaple fought off Miller as Sean Gunther moved into third place on the
restart. By lap 8, Yaple had extended his lead to a near straightway
over Miller. With only one caution flag in the event, the stout
running Yaple flew home to his second career 358 Sportsman win at
Bridgeport. Miller finished in the runner up spot. Third place went to
Bob Lineman Jr. Thirteenth place starter Brett Ballard finished in
fourth place while Gunther claimed fifth place. 358 Sportsman heat
races were won by Dan Cogdill, Yaple and Gunther. The 358 Sportsman
consolation race was won by Harry Marlin.

Neal Williams took the lead on lap 6 of the GM Sportsman race and
obtained his second win in 2009. Bob Burgess led the first five laps
of the feature before the seventh place starting Williams assumed the
lead. Michael Cogdill, who started in the sixth position, passed
Burgess on lap 12 and finished the feature in second place. Third
place went to Burgess. Eric Kormann and Chuck Buchman completed the
top five. Doug Urbano and Williams each won a GM Sportsman qualifying
race. Tyler DeVault led every lap to claim the Rookie GM Sportsman
race.

Pat Conaway encountered some mid-race traffic issues as he captured
his twenty-eighth career feature in the Outlaw Stock division. Terry
Griffith held on for second place over Jeff Dirkes. Jim Honeker and
Jay Chaikin completed the top five.

In the Smashmaster’s Demolition Derby, John Ritter banged his way
to a win.
