HORTON GETS HIS 115th WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
HORTON GETS HIS 115th WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (July 19, 2009) - On Banner Night at Bridgeport
Speedway, Jimmy Horton was the victor in the Big Block Modified
Feature. The Racing World Magazine 358 Sportsman Bonus Series race was
won by Jack Swain. Neal Williams took home the checkered flag in the
GM Sportsman contest while the Rookie GM Sportsman event was won by
Bob Bracall.

Shortly after the green lights illuminated the speedway to begin the
25-Lap Big Block Modified feature, the red flag waved as a massive
thirteen car pile-up occurred on the frontstretch. After the cleanup,
Rick Wegner, Jr. jumped out to the front of the pack with Jimmy Horton
quickly getting into second place. Horton swept by Wegner, Jr. on lap
3 for the lead. Horton's son, Jimmy Horton IV, brought out the caution
on lap 6 when his ride came to stop just inside of turn two. The elder
Horton maintained his advantage on the restart with Wegner, Jr. and
Rich Acolia in pursuit. Steve Durand scooted by Acolia for third on
lap 9. Chad James motored his way into the top three on lap 10. The
caution lights flickered again on lap 11 when Steve Durand's ride was
slowed by a flat tire and the Big Block Modified of Mike Iles
experienced a blown engine. When action resumed, James moved past
Wegner to the runner up position. The final yellow flag of the event
came out on lap 12 as a flat tire was suffered by Wade Hendrickson.
Beginning with the final restart, Horton really began to show his
muscle as he began to build a solid lead. Behind the leader, an
excellent battle for second place was just beginning as Jimmy Chester
moved into third place on lap 18 and was closing in on James. When the
double checkered flags waved, Horton had snared his first Bridgeport
Speedway win of the year and his 115th career win at the Southern New
Jersey dirt oval. Chester slipped by James on the last lap to take
second place. With James taking third, Steve Bottcher finished in
fourth place and young Matt Harrell came home in fifth place. The Big
Block Modified qualifying races were won by Ryan Watt, Horton and
Durand.

In the Racing World Magazine 358 Sportsman Bonus Series event, Jack
Swain took the lead on the opening lap and went on to claim his
seventh career win at Bridgeport Speedway. Swain was gamely chased by
Chuck Hopkins but the veteran racer was able to successfully migrate
through traffic in the second half of the 20-Lap event to become the
ninth different feature winner in the division. Hopkins finished in
second place with third going to Jesse Hill. The fast improving John
Cavallaro was fourth followed by fifth place finishing Jarrad Miller.
Don Bogey and Swain were the victors in the 358 Sportsman heat races.

Neal Williams survived the GM Sportsman contest to win his third
feature of the year. With the 15-Lap event plagued by numerous early
race cautions, Williams outgunned Tom Moore, Jr. on one of the
restarts to take the lead on lap 6 and was not seriously challenged
the rest of the way. Moore, Jr. came home in the runner up position.
Corey Anderson, who led the opening four laps of the race, wound up in
third place. Kyle Borror and rookie Billy Martino completed the top
five. The GM Sportsman heat winners were Moore, Jr. and Williams. Bob
Bracall led wire to wire to claim his first Rookie GM Sportsman race.
